United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Christopher James Fire Cloud, age 18, of Cherry Creek, appeared before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange on August 15, 2011, and pled guilty to a Superseding Information that charged him with Second Degree Burglary of a residence in Isabel, South Dakota. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 15 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.
During the late afternoon of April 21, 2011, Fire Cloud unlawfully entered the residence of an Isabel man, and while in the residence, committed a larceny.
The investigation was conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson.
A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for October 24, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
